This volume contains translations of some of the best stories by Sarat Chandra Chatterji.
Apart from Devdas and Srikanta, famous novels presented here in an abridged form, the selection includes some deeply moving stories which have not thus far been accessible to the English readers.

In his introductory, the translator has given a brief outline of Sarat Chandra's life and discussed the distinctive features of his art.

He was Professor and Chairman of the Philosophy Department at the University of Poona for a few years. As Visiting Professor at several colleges and universities in U. S.
