Description

This book carries a selection of twenty-six short stories by Krishan Chander, widely acclaimed as one of the finest story tellers in Urdu after Premchand.

Protesting against the exploitation of man by man, Krishan Chander pleads passionately in his stories for harmony and understanding. In 'Hum Vahishi Hain', he dwells on the futility of brute killings in the wake of the partition of the country, while in Annadata he paints a savage picture of the Bengal famine of the forties. The same concern for humanity runs through his stories 'Kalu Bhandi', 'Mahalakshmi Bridge' and 'Aunt Isari'.

The book carries a scholarly introduction of Gopi Chand Narang. Jai Ratan's sensitive translation brings into English all the vividness of the original.

This volume presents the best of Krishan Chander for a discerning reader.
