As the greatest Hindi and Urdu writer of pre-independence India, Premchand had pioneered modern Hindi literature. His collected works are being published in 22 volumes. This book is the first in this series and features his 4 novels, published under his name as Nawab Rai.This volume carries 4 novels namely Israre-muaabad, which was first novel of Premchand published in 1902. Other novels are Hum Kharmau Hum Suaab, Jalwae-Ishaar and Bewa. These novels were later translated and published in Hindi under different titles.Writings of Premchand have been collected in 22 volumes and are being published under the title Kulliyat-e-Premchand. The volumes have been arranged as follows:Volume 1 to 8 anthologizes his Novels.Volume 9 to 14 is a collection of his short fiction.Volume 15 and 16 relate to the plays authored by him.Volume 17 carries his letters and correspondenceVolume 18 to 20 are omnibus collection of his writingsVolume 21 and 22 contain translated works.Being a continuing series, the last few volumes are now nearing completion.
