Almost two decades ago, A Young Rev. Jeevan, theologically equipped with a Master's from Seoul, south Korea, arrived at All Saints' Church to begin his eventful five-years tenure as its Presbyter-in-charge. 'Jeeves' as we referred to him affectionately, with his penchant for innovative methods, oodles of enthusiasm and a deep commitment to the ministry, impacted his parishioners by bringing in winds of change and by doing things differently.
His endearing qualities have held him in good stead all these years. Extremely amiable with his friends, colleagues and parishioners, Rev. jeevan has been popular in every Church which he has served.
A thinker who is passionate about putting pen to paper, he can inspire people with his poems and essays, most of them being perspectives on several facets of life such as marriage, friendship, education, conflicts and so on.
He is an excellent communicator of ideas and values. More importantly he is a good teacher. The profundity of his thoughts has always been packaged in seemingly simple sermons which are almost always related to ideal daily Christian living.
His leadership abilities, ecumenical principles, administrative acumen and his strengths in relation to outreach at the national and international levels were given an opportunity to grow when he was appointed as Executive Secretary, National Council of Churches, Nagpur.
A loving father and a doting husband, he has always been a wonderful family man. On the 20th of January 2009he will be reaching an important milestone: his sixtieth birthday. I wish him well and it is my fervent prayer that god will grant him many years of happiness. His goodness and simplicity will, I am sure, continue to inspire and impact those who make his acquaintance. Dag Hammarskjold, the former U.N Secretary General, must have had individuals like him in mind when he said; “Goodness is something so simple, always to live for others, never to seek one’s own advantage”.
Mr. John Zachariah is the Principal of the Cathedral Composite College and High School in Bangalore, Convener of the Education committee of CSI, Karnataka Central Diocese and a very good friend of the family of Jeevans.
