Description

Women's rights are the rights and entitlements claimed for women and girls of many societies worldwide, and formed the basis to the women's rights movement in the nineteenth century and feminist movement during the 20th century.

In some countries, these rights are institutionalized or supported by law, local custom, and behavior, whereas in others they may be ignored or suppressed. They differ from broader notions of human rights through claims of an inherent historical and traditional bias against the exercise of rights by women and girls, in favor of men and boys.

The legal provisions made available for women have to some extent provided protection of women’s rights. But since the rights of women are systemic in nature, only legal provisions do not suffice. Hence, women all over the world have launched powerful women’s movements to reverse centuries of discrimination and injustices.

This manual is an effort to highlight them. This manual is preliminary in nature. It is hoped that this effort would generate meaningful discussion and provide definite direction for change in the social order that is engaged in the exploitation and discrimination of women.
