This edition of the Mandukya Upanisad is, like the previous Upanisads in this series, based on Swami Lokeswarananda’s weekly discourses. Readers will find this Upanisad simple and lucid. They will also find it authentic in that it follows Sankara’s interpretation. We are going to study the Mandukya Upanisad, so before we begin, we pray that we may have healthy bodies and minds. We pray that our bodies and minds may be steady and not create any problems for us, that we can hear good things and see good things so that there are no distraction, that we can devote ourselves entirely to the subject, and that we may live like this as long as the gods decree. This is a very appropriate prayer for the study of an Upanisad.
