The demise of the Soviet Union led to the emergence of fifteen independent states, including five in the Central Asia. The post-Soviet Central Asia, comprising Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan, has aroused lot of interest among the regional and outside powers because of its politico-strategic and economic significance. Intense political activities have been witnessed, with a view to create favourable patterns of politics. The region being in close proximity to India is equally significant for this country.

In this anthology the scholars have attempted to present an in-depth study of the emerging socio-political and economic scenario in the countries of South-Central Asia. The scholars have examined the process of the establishment of diplomatic ties, the economic significance of the region from India’s point of view, various pipeline options being worked out for transporting oil and gas resources of the Central Asian countries, the process of liberalization initiated by these countries and its linkages with India, security related issues, the importance of the region for meeting energy requirements of India, nature of US war against terrorism and its implications for the Central Asia, security networks being creed with Russian cooperation and he process of Islamisation. The searching questions related to these issues, have been adequately answered.
