Description
The life Sri Ramakrishna was an extraordinary searchlight under whose illumination one is able to really understand the whole scope of Hindu religion. The books were theories, he was the realization. This man had in fifty-one years lived the five thousand years of national spiritual life and so raised himself to be an object-lesson for future generations. The Vedas can only be explained and the Shastras reconciled by his theory of Avastha or stages – that we must not only tolerate others, but positively embrace them, and truth is the basis of all religions. This commemorative volume is an attempt to draw our attention to the personality and ideas of Sri Ramakrishna (1836-86) on his 175th birth anniversary. Sri Ramakrishna was a thoroughly spiritual person. However, only those aspects of his ideas have been focused here with which we can engage on an intellectual and emotional level. The contributors include monks of the Ramakrishna Order as well as internationally acclaimed thinkers. The essays are compiled loosely under six basic themes, namely: The life and Times of Sri Ramakrishna; Sri Ramakrishna: The Man and His Personality; Sri Ramakrishna’s Ideas; Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita as a Text; Sri Ramakrishna and Our Times; and Perspectives on Sri Ramakrishna. Of these, the concluding section contains articles by young scholars. Most of these essays were presented by the contributors at an International Seminar held at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math on 19, 20 & 21 January 2012.
