Based on the extensive military literature in Sanskrit, this book is an interesting account of the various aspects of the dynamics of war and the place of army in Hindu political thought in ancient India.In India, kingdoms rose and fell in never- ending succession. Dig-Vijay ( Conquest of regions) was held up as a righteous ideal. The writer in this work has brought out the military ideas, methods of fortification , equipment's and arms used by ancient Indian Warriors.Broadly speaking the material for the present study fall under two heads; Literary and Archaeological. Archaeological evidence consists mainly of the ruins of the old towns and forts, paintings, coins inscriptions. The literary source is the two epics - Ramayana and Mahabharata some Greek, Graeco-Roman and Chinese literature.
