FROM THE BOOK FOREWORD:
This is a book of musings inspired by the teachings of Bhagavan Sri Ramana. The Author, Sri N. N. Rajan, is an old-time devotee of the Sage. From out of his devotion he has culled gems of thought which will adorn those who are in quest of the Ultimate. The direct and straight method of Self-Enquiry taught by the Master is recapitulated in simple and easy language for the benefit of all those who are athirst for the goal.
To citations from the Master's Works, Sri Rajan has added relevant quotations from the sacred books such as the Upanishads, the Bhagavad Gita and the Yoga- Vasishtha. He has clearly shown how Sri Ramana's teachings constitute the essence of Vedanta. In the Sage's life and message we have a lucid commentary on the Truth of Advaita as taught by Adi Shankara and his illustrious followers. Sri Rajan has succeeded in expressing through this work both his devotion to the Master and his concern for fellow-aspirants.
I regard it as a sacred duty to record my impression of this good work by Sri N. N. Rajan, aptly named The Bloom of Inner Glory, having had the privilege of perusing it in manuscript. Sri N. N. Rajan is an ardent devotee of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi. With his whole family, he enjoyed the rare good fortune of lifelong intimate contact with Sri Bhagavan. So, his writing on Sri Ramana should be welcomed, if for no other reason, at least as a firsthand testimony to Maharshi's greatness and glory.
The present work, however, covers a much wider field. Sri Rajan, as he himself admits, is no erudite scholar or professional philosopher. As a layman he here presents his ideas and observations on spiritual striving towards Perfection, imbibed mostly from his Guru Dev. His approach and treatment of the subject, being necessarily non-recondite and simple, should appeal to the common man. Besides, he has had his share of hardships and ordeals in a fairly long life. So his views and ideas are not merely theoretical, but they carry the weight and authenticity of personal experience and observation. They express the convictions of a true devotee, and must therefore appeal to all sincere souls.
