 Indiaclub.com Description

Written with insight, honesty and great sensitivity, The Web of Silk and Gold is deeply absorbing and inspiring first novel about a young woman's awakening to a sense of her own self, and her heart-rendering journey from innocence to maturity and strength.

A sensitive , deeply inspiring and absorbing first novel about Aradhana, a young Indian girl. It is the story of her life which is full of violence, terror and humiliation. How her quest for individual fulfillment turns out to be a complex and tortuous process where diverse forces of the law, politics and crime come into play, drawing her into a horrifying world of corruption, rape and murder. But it is also a powerful narration of her awakening to a sense of her own self and her heart-rendering journey from innocence to maturity and strength.

This book has truly touched my heart in ways I hadn't thought were possible. It explores many of the difficulties Asian women in particular have with regard to Asian marriages and violent husbands. I myself have had first hand experience of what it is like to have a violent and verbusive father. At times my childhood has been unbearable. It is books like these that have given me strength in believing that love can conquer the worst experiences. Shakti also illustrates some of the restricted values and norms we women have to endure. This book will appeal to anyone. At times it is disturbing but the reader will be satisfied by the end of the novel.

Read the book by chance. It was like meeting "Aradhana" the main character and chatting with her. I read a lot of books, but never encountered such a heart warming one. All I can say is the author has a mesmerising style that makes her book read like a memoir. Loved it. Congrats . Expect more from Shakti Niranjchana.
