Although Sunil Gangopadhyay is known more for his fiction, it is poetry which is his ‘‘first love’’. Born in Faridpur, now in Bangladesh, his family had to leave home after the Partition. Gangopadhyay started writing while still in his teens and tried his hand at various jobs to make ends meet.
